How does therapy work?

Understanding how talking therapy can be beneficial to you and when it feels right to seek additional support from professionals

Some people seek support when they are feeling overwhelmed or going through a difficult period in their life, while others want a space to explore how they are feeling and better understand themselves. Therapy can be a place to speak safely, explore new coping strategies and re-discover existing strengths you have. We will work together, valuing both our experience and expertise, in a compassionate and curious way.

My aim is to make sure you feel seen, heard and supported.

Therapy sessions are through online video calls or voice calls only. Online sessions have been found to be as effective as in person therapy. I hope that being able to work online gives more flexibility for availability and allows you to join sessions from a comfortable, convenient environment of your choosing.

Sessions will last 50 minutes. The sessions are offered in blocks of five, we go at your pace and initially think about what you would find most helpful to focus on. We know that a one-off therapy session may not provide enough time and stability to develop the therapeutic rapport that can be useful when discussing difficulties and also that it is common for people to attend for several sessions before finding talking therapy helpful.

We give plenty of opportunities to collaboratively review how you are finding the sessions and to make changes as appropriate. You are under no obligation to continue therapy, and can inform Dr Ray at any time if you wanted our work together to stop.

If you would prefer a one-off 90 minute assessment to discuss your difficulties in a safe space and you wish to be provided with a summary letter of our assessment. To arrange a consultation call, please book a consultation meeting under ‘Contact Us’ or complete the enquiry form below, and Dr Ray will get back to you. Talk soon!
